Background
- The protein encoded by this gene converts UDP-glucose toUDP-glucuronate and thereby participates in the biosynthesis ofglycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronan, chondroitin sulfate, andheparan sulfate. These glycosylated compounds are common componentsof the extracellular matrix and likely play roles in signaltransduction, cell migration, and cancer growth and metastasis. Theexpression of this gene is up-regulated by transforming growthfactor beta and down-regulated by hypoxia. Alternative splicingresults in multiple transcript variants.
