Background
- This gene encodes a protein best known as a hematopoieticcell granule proteoglycan. Proteoglycans stored in the secretorygranules of many hematopoietic cells also contain aprotease-resistant peptide core, which may be important forneutralizing hydrolytic enzymes. This encoded protein was found tobe associated with the macromolecular complex of granzymes andperforin, which may serve as a mediator of granule-mediatedapoptosis. Two transcript variants, only one of themprotein-coding, have been found for this gene. [provided byRefSeq].
