Background
- This gene encodes a transmembrane protein with twoextracellular Kunitz domains that inhibits a variety of serineproteases. The protein inhibits HGF activator which prevents theformation of active hepatocyte growth factor. This gene is aputative tumor suppressor, and mutations in this gene result incongenital sodium diarrhea. Multiple transcript variants encodingdifferent isoforms have been found for this gene.
