Background
- This gene encodes a cell surface protein that is a memberof the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein consists offour N-terminal immunoglobulin-like domains, six fibronectin typeIII domains, a transmembrane domain and a C-terminal internaldomain that shares homology with the tumor suppressor candidategene DCC. This protein may be involved in cell growth anddifferentiation and in cell-cell adhesion. Defects in this gene areassociated with cell proliferation in certain cancers. Alternatesplicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided byRefSeq].
