Background
- Myosin, a structural component of muscle, consists of twoheavy chains and four light chains. The protein encoded by thisgene is a myosin light chain that may regulate muscle contractionby modulating the ATPase activity of myosin heads. The encodedprotein binds calcium and is activated by myosin light chainkinase. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms havebeen found for this gene.
