BACKGROUND: | FUNCTION: Rev appears to act post-transcriptionally to relieve negative repression of Gag and Env production. PTM: Phosphoprotein whose state of phosphorylation is mediated by a specific serine kinase activity present in the nucleus. Phosphorylated at separate regions by protein kinase CK2 and MAPK. Phosphorylation by CK2 could play a role in Rev down-regulation. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nuclear; accumulates in the nucleoli. |
