Infectious Disease Antibodies: Herpes Antibodies

Herpes disease is caused by either herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) or herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2). Generally, herpes simplex virus-1 is the causes oral and facial infections, and genital infections are caused by herpes simplex virus-2. Herpes virus infections first manifest themselves as an itchy or tingling sensation at the surface of the skin followed by the growth of a raised or swollen area. Over time the sore will abscess, scar over, and eventually heal completely.

Herpes simplex virus enters a host cell through a complex set of receptors and mediators. Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 14 (TNFRSF14) serves as an entry mediator for herpes virus. Upon binding to the herpes simplex virus envelope glycoprotein D or LIGHT/lumphotoxin alpha, the NF-κB and AP-1 signal transduction pathway is activated, stimulating T cell proliferation and cytokine production. Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 14 (TNFRSF14) is important in pathogenesis because it enhances the mediated entry of several herpes simplex virus strains into activated human T cells.

ProSci carries herpes antibodies including antibodies against tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 14 (TNFRSF14). ProSci antibodies are appropriate for ELISA, western blot, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) applications as noted for each herpes antibody.
