Hepatitis is a general term referring to injury of liver tissue by inflammatory cells. Most cases are caused by a group of viruses, but it can also be caused by infections, autoimmune disorders and toxins. Hepatitis infections caused by viruses are grouped into hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis B with D, hepatitis E, hepatitis F, and hepatitis G. ProSci offers antibodies against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
Hepatitis A is cause by a picornavirus and is most prevelant in third world contries. It is not life threatening, with most patients recovering fully within 2 months. Hepatitis B is caused by a hepadnavirus and results in 500,000 to 1,200,000 deaths per year around the world, and it is highly prevalent in many South-East Asian countries. Hepatitis B is the most infectous bloodborne pathogen known. Hepatitis C is cause by a virus in the Flaviviridae family. Hepatitis C can lead to a chronic form of hepatitis and can be asymptomatic for 10-20 years.
Proci has a wide selection of antibodies against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. Many of the hepatitis antibodies that ProSci offers are available with multiple tags including fluorescein, peroxidase and biotin. Hepatitis antibodies have been extensively tested for cross reactivity across multiple strains, and all the specificity information for the hepatitis antibodies can be found on each hepatitis antibody datasheet webpage.
Links to all hepatitis antibodies can be found below. ProSci antibodies are appropriate for ELISA, western blot, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) applications as noted for each hepatitis antibody.
