Infectious Disease Antibodies: HIV Antibodies and HIV Related Antibodies
AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) was first reported in the United States in 1981 and has since become a major worldwide epidemic. AIDS is caused by HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). By killing or damaging cells of the body's immune system, HIV progressively destroys the body's ability to fight infections and certain cancers. People diagnosed with AIDS may get life-threatening diseases called opportunistic infections, which are caused by microbes such as viruses or bacteria that usually do not make healthy people sick.
HIV targets specific cells of the immune system, specifically macrophages, dendritic cells and helper T cells (CD4+ T cells). HIV infection lowers levels of CD4+ T cells by destroying infected CD4+ T cells using CD8 cytotoxic lymphocytes, increasing the rate of apoptosis within infected cells and direct viral killing of the infected cells.
ProSci has a wide variety of HIV antibodies and HIV related antibodies. These include antibodies against G protein coupled HIV Chemokine receptor (CXCR4, CCR), DC-SIGN (dendritic cell specific intracellular adhesion molecule 3 grabbing nonintegrin), TRIM5 (tripartite motif 5) and many other HIV proteins. ProSci antibodies are appropriate for ELISA, western blot, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) applications as noted for each HIV antibody or HIV related antibody.
