Primary Antibodies
APC Antibody
Background
Although the metabolic function of the tumor suppressor APC gene is not known, it is involved in maintaining cytoplasmic levels of the Wingless (Wg)/Wnt effector (Armadillo)/beta-catenin at a steady state. During development, beta-catenin is involved in cell growth and axis patterning. APC binds beta-catenin preventing it to act as a transcription factor and targets it for destruction. Mutations in the APC gene cause familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an autosomal dominant pre-malignant disease that usually progresses to malignancy such as Gardner syndrome and colorectal cancer.
