Phospho-Specific Antibodies
In eukaryotic cells, one of the most important and well studied regulatory events is protein phosphorylation. Protein phosphorylation is the addition of a phosphate group (PO4) to a protein substrate by a protein kinase. The removal of this phosphate group is dephosphorylation, and is carried out by protein phosphatases. The addition and removal of a phosphate group is a way of activating and inactivating many proteins within the cell. Proteins can have more than one phosphorylation site and saturation of all the phosphorylation sites on a protein can result in hyperphosphorylation. Phospho-specific antibodies can recognize the presence or absence of a phosphate group on a specific protein which can be extremely useful for understanding this regulation of protein activity.
ProSci has a wide variety of phospho-specific antibodies. These include antibodies against focal adhesion kinase (FAK), protein kinase C (PKC), microtubule associated protein kinase kinase (MEK), microtubule associated tau protein (Tau) and many other phospho-specific proteins. ProSci antibodies are appropriate for ELISA, western blot, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) applications as noted for each phospho-specific antibody.
