Innate Immunity Antibodies
Innate immunity is referred to as the non-specific branch of the immune system, responsible for defending the body against infection by foreign organisms. The innate immune system has a variety of functions which help it in this important role. First and foremost, the innate immune system is responsible for identification and subsequent elimination of foreign substances, primarily by the use of white blood cells. All white blood cells are known as leukocytes, and the leukocytes which are involved in innate immune system include natural killer cells, mast cells, eosinophils, basophils, macrophages, neutrophils, and dendridic cells.
Other functions of innate immunity include the activation of the adaptive immune system through presenting foreign antigens, activation of the complement cascade, and recruiting immune cells to sites of infection by causing inflammation.
Interleukin-1 receptor associated kinases (IRAK), anthrax toxins, and toll-like receptors (TLR) are all proteins which are associated with innate immunity. Toll-like receptors are a family of associated receptors which are primarily responsible for recognizing a diverse array of microbial proteins patterns which make them pattern recognition receptors, and explain their key role in innate immunity.
Toll-like receptors (TLR) relay signals through interleukin-1 receptor associated kinase family members (IRAK, IRAK-2, IRAK-4, and IRAK-M). Each of these IRAK proteins has a unique roll in innate immunity, and IRAK-4 is required for innate immune functionality. Bacillus anthracis is the causative agent of anthrax infections, and its toxin kills phagocytic cells due to its cytotoxicity.
ProSci has many innate immunity antibodies, including antibodies to the proteins mentioned here. ProSci's innate immunity antibodies include antibodies against IRAK, IRAK-2, IRAK-4 and IRAK-M. ProSci also carries an Anthrax Protein Detection Set, IRAK Detection Set, and a TLR Adaptor Detection Set. ProSci antibodies and detection sets are appropriate for ELISA, western blot, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) applications as noted for each innate immunity antibody or related detection set.
